What is the difference between firewire and firewire basic? - firewire and orthopedic
I installed a FireWire port on my Mac. I try a video camera that is compatible with Final Cut Express HD and iMovie HD to find. It seems that some cameras need Firewire, and some require FireWire Basic. What is the difference?

To be honest, I've never heard "FireWire Basic".
Then I looked around me. Let me tell you, * I * worked for this answer (wink, wink, puff, puff) ..
It's one thing for Apple. Bear with me here, because it is itself confused with Apple's folk-art with the terms and can not be defined on the Apple website.
But I found it!
So here's the Story:
First you need to know that Apple is the team that IEEE1394 protocol and brands such as "invented FireWire.
It turns out that 1394 was so successful that many manufacturers pushed their skills in the gray areas of the specification. And when they've started a gray area, "added Use merit, then the large manufacturers to copy the bypass roads. This rESULTS a large popular base for these "advanced" skills.
During this time, however, Apple has its own hardware and software products via FireWire to the strict definitions of IEEE1394 place.
This is the case of Final Cut Pro
It seems that the PCF and many recording devices could talk to each other because of the tight adherence in FCP 1394 programmed.
But Apple did not offend all the cameras and bridges "over there" market with versions of FireWire. Not be condemned, and many of them are products of high quality. And suffice it to say Apple does not really want to lose customers to buy premium products. ;-)
Apple has a kind of "creating a relaxed" than the FireWire specificationmore in line with the procurement of FireWire version.
-------------------------------------- ...
So here's the answer:
The specification is strictly regulated IEEE1394 called "Apple FireWire".
The "relaxed" version is called "Apple FireWire Basic".
-------------------------------------- ...
Well, here's an additive such strange people Apple can be seen, including Apple Inc. folk, that the 2 are virtually identical. This is supported by a multiple of the standard procedure for the use of FCP, "first try to resolve the FireWire cable. If this fails, try the FireWire configuration database."
Okay. Si Well, no offense guys, but I think I'll stick with my Wintel sToba ... But hey, I'm usually upset my guests and my guests in the restaurants down the wine list and ordering me .. ;-)
Anyway, I hope this helps!
Oh, and PS: "Apple FireWire and Apple's FireWire-based" have nothing to do with the latest specifications 400Mb Power 1394b FireWire procedures 1394a (now) to 800MB (Called 1394b). The two "Apple FireWire and FireWire-based Apple has apparently (or soon) a & b versions.
